My research explores the transformation of local governance, urban politics and urban spatial development strategies in China in the transition towards “people-oriented”  urbanisation. Through a reworked theoretical scaffold of urban entrepreneurialism (or entrepreneurial city), I shall investigate the Public and Private Partnership (PPP) towards an “industry-cum-city integrated development, and rural property rights restructuring towards an 'urban-cum-rural coordinated” development.  With an analytical focus on a small city in hinterland China, the research also benefits the understanding of emerging 'ordinary' urbanism in the 'off-the-map' global south.
