Dr Xuqing LIU is an Independent Research Fellow in Textile Bioengineering and Science and serves as the Chair of Student Staff Liaison Committee of Postgraduate Taught (DoM). Dr Liu obtained his BS in Chemistry at the Lanzhou University, China, then he joined the Chinese Academy of Sciences to start his research in developing new synthetic lubricates and tribology chemistry. In 2011, he moved to the Hong Kong Polytechnic University as a PhD student in Prof Zijian Zheng and Prof Yi LI's groups, studying smart textiles and functional fabrics. During 2013-2014, he was a visiting PhD student in Prof Robert Young's group at the University of Manchester. Completing his doctorate in 2015, Dr Liu joined the University of Manchester as an independent Research Fellow, where he investigates Fibre Surface Molecular Engineering.
Dr Liu is the Chairman of the Chinese Textile and Apparel Society(CTAS－UK), and a committee of the Society of Chemical Industry, Chinese-UK group. He is the Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts, and Fellow of the Higher Education Academy. He is serving on the Editorial Boards of Advanced Fiber Materials, SmartMat, Energy & Environmental Materials.
More than 80 research papers have been published in high-quality journals, such as Advanced Materials, Advanced Functional Materials, Nano Letters, Small, and ACS Nano.
