Dr Wendy Thompson

Dr Wendy Thompson is an NIHR Clinical Lecturer in Primary Dental Care. Her academic research is about urgent dental care, including improving the quality of decision making in order to reduce the unnecessary use of antibiotics in dentistry. Wendy works as a general dentist at Cottage Dental Practice in Kirkby Lonsdale, Cumbria.

Wendy is an honorary consultant in NHS England's Office of the Chief Dental Officer, lead author of the FDI World Dental Federation's white paper on antibiotics in dentistry and lead educator of its collaborative MOOC about dental antibiotics with the British Society for Antimicrobial Chemotherapy. Health Education England regularly invites her to provide continuing professional development courses for members of the dental team about prescribing and antibiotic resistance. In addition, she is a foundation member of the College of General Dentistry and a member of the British Dental Association's Health & Science Committee.
