Viet is a Professor of Finance at Alliance Manchester Business School. He joined the School after successfully completing a PhD in Financial Economics at Leeds University Business School in 2007. His main research interests are empirical issues in corporate finance. 

Viet's PhD thesis was awarded the Best PhD Paper Award at the Financial Management Association (FMA) European Conference in 2007. His recent studies have been nominated various Best Paper Awards at the FMA Annual Meetings (Semi-finalist) and European Conference (Finalist), as well as the European Financial Management Association (EFMA) Conference. Viet's research was funded by the UK's Economic and Social Research Council (ESRC) and has appeared in world-leading and reputable finance journals (ABS4*/ABS4/ABS3*), such as the Review of Financial Studies, Journal of Corporate FinanceJournal of Banking and Finance, Journal of Financial Markets, and Journal of Empirical Finance.

Viet is an editor of the Journal of Business Finance and Accounting (ABS3*), an internationally recognized outlet for research in accounting, corporate finance, and governance. He also reviews for UK research councils, international conferences and academic journals in business finance, accounting, and economics, including the Journal of Financial Intermediation, Journal of Corporate Finance, and Journal of Banking and Finance. He is a member of the American Finance Association (AFA), FMA, Society for Financial Studies (SFS), European Finance Association (EFA), and EFMA. Viet was a founding member and former President of the Vietnam Finance Association International (VFAI).

Further information

Viet is Postgraduate Taught (PGT) Programme Coordinator for four MSc. degree programmes in the School's Accounting and Finance Division. He was previously Director for two programmes, the MSc. Accounting and Finance and the MSc. Finance and Business Economics. He currently teaches on the following course units:

- Cross-sectional Econometrics (Core course unit, MSc. Accounting and Finance and MSc. Finance).

- Advanced Corporate Finance (PhD).

Viet's teaching has been rated as Excellent by the School. He has been supervising between five and seven MSc. Finance Dissertations per year since 2008.

He has supervised four PhD students to successful completion and is currently supervising two PhD students in the field of empirical corporate finance. He regularly acts as an internal or external PhD examiner.
