Overview

Tao Wang is a doctoral researcher in politics at the University of Manchester. His research interests span the fields of political culture, political representation and nationalism, with a focus on Taiwan and mainland China.

Tao’s ongoing work centres on how political culture shapes representation in Taiwan’s democracy. Using qualitative, quantitative and experimental methods, the study explores the effects of guanxi or particularistic ties, on the personal vote of the members of Taiwanese parliament. His research was recently published in Foreign Affairs, Journal of Contemporary China, World Affairs and etc.
