Tao Wang is a doctoral researcher in politics at the University of Manchester. His research interests span the fields of political culture, legislative studies and nationalism, with a focus on Taiwan and mainland China.

His ongoing work centres on how Confucian legacy shapes representation in Taiwan’s democracy. Using social media analysis, ethnography and experimental methods, the study explores the effects of ties (guanxi) and face (mianzi) in cultivating a personal vote of members of Taiwanese parliament. His research was recently published in Foreign Affairs, Journal of Contemporary China and etc.
