Dr. Somdeep Chatterjee is a Lecturer (Assistant Professor) in Development Economics at the Global Development Institute, The University of Manchester. He is an applied microeconomist by training and is mainly interested in the fields of development economics, economics of education and political economy. His work has been published in journals like the Journal of the Euroepan Economic Association, Economica, Journal of Human Capital, World Development, Public Choice etc. He has given invited seminar talks and made research presentations at various international institutes including the University of Groningen, Asian Development Research Institute, Indian Institutes of Technology, Indian Institutes of Management, Indian Statistical Institute, Delhi School of Economics, University of Houston, Federal Reserve Bank of Dallas, National University of Singapore among others.
Prior to joining Manchester, he was an Assistant Professor in the Business Environment (Economics) area at the Indian Institute of Management Lucknow where he also served as the Chairperson of the area for 1.5 years. Prior to that he was with the Department of Economics at FLAME University. He completed his doctoral studies from the University of Houston and served as an instructor cum teaching fellow during his PhD years. He teaches courses in applied microeconomics, development economics, economics of human development and public policy issues in developing countries. He received the award for best economics area elective at the Indian Institute of Management Lucknow for three consecutive years for his course Behavioral Economics and Management. He has been inducted as a Fellow of the Global Labor Organization since July 2018.
