I joined The University of Manchester in January 2014 as a Lecturer in Healthcare Management.  Promoted to Senior Lecturer in 2018, I am the Deputy Director (and tutor) for the MSc Healthcare Leadership (commissioned by the NHS Leadership Academy as the Elizabeth Garrett Anderson programme); module lead for health economics in the MSc International Healthcare Leadership programme; an accredited facilitator of the ExperienceChange simulation, the Oshry Organization Workshop and the NHS Leadership Academy's Healthcare Leadership Model 360; and have previously been a contributor to the Higher Specialist Scientific (HSST) programme Unit A modules on Leadership and Professional Development.

I have fellowship of the Higher Education Academy; have successfully completed the University of Manchester's Humanities New Academics Programme and Leaders in Teaching Programme and was awarded one of two business school places at Harvard Business School's Global Colloquium on Participant-Centered Learning in 2019-20.

Prior to joining the university, I studied Health Economics and Health Care Management at postgraduate level, worked in the English National Health Service as a manager from 2000-07 and then at De Montfort University, lecturing in health care management from 2007-13, from where I was awarded the Vice Chancellor's Distinguished Teaching Award in 2012 and the University's Teacher Fellowship in 2013.

I was awarded my PhD in Business and Management from The University of Manchester in 2016. My research focussed on a case study of change in medical education.

I have conducted research (with Mr Alan Boyd) on the impact of the Care Quality Commission on quality of care (value £208,000; 2018-19) and was part of the Alliance MBS/King's Fund research team conducting a scoping review of NHS Improvement's Developing People: Improving Care framework (value £25,000; 2017). In 2015, I led a writing project for the Higher Education Academy / Advance HE (value £25,000), which provided primer guides to teaching topics in higher education as part of their Knowledge Hub

My current research is focussed on the development of UK medical leadership (supported be a British Academy of Management Transitions 1 Grant). This builds on research I have been co-leading with Prof. Mark Exworthy (University of Birmingham) since 2018 on the professionalization and practice of medical leadership
