Dr Samantha Hardman
Senior Technical Specialist

Overview
Samantha is the Senor Technical Specialist with overall responsibility for laser, optical, and electronic charachterisation provision in FSE. She also runs the Ultrafast Biophysics Facility in the MIB, where whe works at the Chemistry - Life Sciences - Physics interface.
Samantha investigates photochemical processes in a wide range of samples including enzymes, photoreceptors, semiconductor nanoparticles, inorganic compounds, graphene annd other 2D materials, and DNA. She has degigned, built, and used ultrafast transient absorption spectrometers for both visible and infra-red spectra regions, as well as using and maintaining various laser systems. She also has significant experience of ultrafast fluorescence up-conversion, TCSPC, FTIR, X-ray photoemission spectrocopy, X-ray scattering, stopped flow (rapid-mixing) techniques, and ab-initio and molecular dynamics calculations.
