Until my retirement in January 2010, I was head of the Advanced Interfaces Group in the School of Computer Science, where I continue to hold a position as Professor Emeritus.
I graduated from the University of Leicester in 1967 with a 1st Class BSc in Engineering, followed by a PhD in Computer Graphics in 1971. From 1972 to 1974 I was a Consultant working for SPL International in London, as a specialist in computer graphics and CAD. From 1974 until 1987 I was the first Director of the University's Computer Graphics Unit. From 1985 until 2002 I was a Senior Lecturer in Computer Science, and from 2002 Professor of Virtual Environments. From 1989 to 1991 I was Chairman of the European Association for Computer Graphics.
