Rahul is a postdoctoral research associate in the Nuclear Graphite Research Group in School of Mechanical, Aerospace and Civil Engineering.
His responsibility in this role includes modelling and simulation of the structural response of graphite cores used in nuclear reactors.
Rahul's broader research interest includes structural dynamics, material characterisation, multibody dynamics, uncertainty and sensitivity analysis.
For his PhD thesis, he investigated the effect of crystal orientation of single crystal blades on static and dynamic response of the bladed disk used in gas-turbine engines.
As a research associate in the aerospace department at Indian Institute of Technology Kanpur (IIT-K), he studied the effect of variation in resin to hardner ratio on thermomechanical and fracture behaviour of epoxy polymers. At IIT-K, he was also part of a project carried out to determine experimentally the interface strength of epoxy thin films on glass substrates using laser-spallation technique.
