Overview

My research investigates a humanitarian initiative that addresses urban armed violence in Greater Rio de Janeiro through techniques of risk management. Based primarily on long-term ethnographic fieldwork, I analyse an International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) program that instructs public service workers on how to assessand mitigate risks related to armed violence in their daily work. My research interests include humanitarianism, violence, normality, risk, and humour.
