Overview

I am researching wildland fires (wildfires and prescribed burns) in uk peatlands, looking at the range of charred materials (pyrogenic carbon or PyC) they produce with regards to their carbon cycling significance and interactions with other important ecosystem factors.

PyC is of research interest as a high density, resilient store of carbon the long term environmental effects of whichrequire improved understanding of.

My research aims to characterise the continuum of pyrogenic carbon resulting from peatland fires as well as assess how they degrade over time and within different environmental settings, so as to improve understanding of PyC carbon cycling significance.
