I was raised in Cambridge in the United Kingdom and completed my undergraduate studies at the University of Sussex and Ph.D. at the University of Manchester. I have travelled extensively in Africa and to a lesser extent in Central America.
I have over 15 years of research and teaching experience across four European countries including Belgium, Denmark and Sweden. My research focuses on equity in agriculture, value chains and climate change in the Global South.
I have secured and managed two research projects: Contract Farming and Gender Equity in African Landscapes (CONGENIAL) funded by the ESRC Development Frontiers scheme; and Policy for Equity in African Agriculture (Papaya) funded by DfID through the Sustainable Agricultural Intensification in Africa (SAIRLA) funding scheme.
My policy work includes assignments for DfID, the Food and Agricultural Organisation, the International Initiative on Impact Evaluation (3ie) and the Agence Française de Développement. I enjoy editorial work and am an editor of the European Journal of Development Research. I started my career working at the Overseas Development Institute, London.
