Professor Marc Maybauer is a Consultant in Cardiothoracic Anaesthesia & Intensive Care Medicine, Lead for Research, and Director of ECMO at Manchester Royal Infirmary, Manchester, UK. He is appointed as Professor at the Philipps University in Marburg, Germany, Honorary Professor at the University of Queensland in Brisbane, Australia and Honorary Senior Lecturer at the University of Manchester. Professor Maybauer’s dissertation and habilitation were focused on acute lung injury and inhalation injury, this led to the development of an interest in ARDS, circulatory shock and Extracorporeal Life Support (ECLS) such as Extracorporeal Membrane Oxygenation (ECMO). Current clinical projects investigate rescue veno-arterial-ECMO for patients with adult congenital heart disease (ACHD) as well as veno-venous ECMO for patients with severe burn and smoke inhalation injury.
