Nursing and Midwifery Council Fitness to Practise registered nurse panellist

Following postitions in both adult and child nursing and in clinical research I moved into nursing education at the University of Manchester in 2004. I completed my MSc in Nursing with a dissertation focusing on the participation of children and young people in decisions relating to their health care. I went on to publish a literature review on this subject which was cited in the Chief Medical Officer’s annual report, 2012: Our Children Deserve Better: Prevention Pays.

In 2013 I was appointed by the Nursing and Midwifery Countil to sit as a registrant panellist on Fitness to Practise hearings for registered nurses. I sit on hearings approximately twenty days per year and was reappointed for a second term following successful completion of four years.

In 2018 I became Senior Fellow of the Higher Education Academy.

Social responsibility

I was school governor for a primary school from September 2012 to September 2014.

I integrate social responsibility into my teaching including learning from service users.
