Overview

I joined the Manchester Centre for Health Economics in January 2015. I have an interest in health care organization and financing, particularly on how institutional arrangements affect health and health care outcomes across different systems. I enjoy applied analysis using administrative and survey data.

I am currently working on health system mechanisms and effects of Performance Based Financing in Zimbabwe and Mozambique, waiting times and health care outcomes in Emergency Departments in England, effects of training on Acute Kidney Injury management in primary care in Manchester.   I am seconded to NHS England Insights for Finance Directorate to work on the refreshment of the resource allocation formula for mental health.

I worked on variations in mortality across the week following emergency admission to hospital in England and on a few projects developed within the Greater Manchester Collaboration for Leadership in Applied Health Research and Care, including the evaluation of extended access o primary care in Greater Manchester.

Prior to joining the centre, I was based at the Global Health and Development Department at the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine. I carried out my PhD research on equity and efficiency in the allocation of financial resources across geographic areas in Mozambique and started analysing the causal pathways of a pay-for-performance scheme in Tanzania.

I have a background in Economics with a focus on development economics. My interest in public health care systems grew while working as an economist in the Directorate of Planning and International Cooperation of the Ministry of Health of Mozambique. I still collaborate with national and international organizations that support developing health systems.
