Biography

Kate obtained an undergraduate degree in Genetics with German from the University of Manchester in 2006.  Her interest in the causes and consequences of inflammation was sparked by a year spent in the laboratory of Bart Janssen (University of Heidelberg, 2004-5) where she investigated genetic susceptibility to complications of diabetes.  In 2006, she moved to the laboratory of Julian C. Knight (Wellcome Trust Centre for Human Genetics, University of Oxford) to complete an MRC-funded PhD on the transcriptional control of inflammatory gene expression.

Kate returned to the University of Manchester in 2011.  Since then she has worked on several projects to examine how chronic inflammation contributes to myeloid cell fate choice.  She is currently working on a Unilever-funded project to characterise T-cell responses in skin allergy.
