Dr Julian Matthews studied mathematics before completing a Ph.D. in automotive engineering, both at Warwick University in the UK. Since then he has more than 25 years’ experience in medical imaging, specialising in Positron Emission Tomography methodology. He has worked for a number of academic organisations (MRC cyclotron unit – Hammersmith, Wolfson Brain Imaging Centre – Cambridge) and for the pharmaceutical company GlaxoSmithKline. In January 2005, he returned to academia at the University of Manchester and is currently within the Division of Neuroscience and Experimental Psychology. In addition to conducting research into medical imaging methods, he lectures undergraduate physics students and master students in two M.Sc. courses, Imaging Science and Neuroimaging for Clinical and Cognitive Neuroscience.
