Overview

My PhD project is a comparative study that is concerned with the relationship between the senses and the self in both late medieval and early modern devotional poetry. It aims to underscore the continuity in poetic attitudes to religious devotion and the extent to which sensory imagery plays a role in the shaping of the devotional experience.
