Dr James Scorer
Senior Lecturer in Latin American Cultural Studies
Overview
I am Senior Lecturer in Latin American Cultural Studies in the department of Spanish, Portuguese and Latin American Studies. I am currently the Chair of the Languages Undergraduate Programme Committee and between 2014-2019 I was Co-Director of the Centre for Latin American & Caribbean Studies.
My research focuses on Latin American urban imaginaries, particularly those of Buenos Aires, and on Latin American cultural production, especially photography and comics.
I am currently the principal investigator on a 3-year AHRC-funded project entitled Comics and Race in Latin America (co-I, Prof. Peter Wade).
Between 2016-2019 I was the principal investigator of the international network Comics and the Latin American City, funded by The Leverhulme Trust.
I am the author of City in Common: Culture and Community in Buenos Aires (SUNY, 2016) and the editor of Comics Beyond the Page in Latin America (UCL, 2020). I am also co-editor of Comics and Memory in Latin America (Pittsburgh, 2017) (also available in Spanish as Cómics y memoria en América Latina (Cátedra, 2019)) and Cultures of Anti-Racism in Latin America (ILAS, 2019).
