Biography

I took my first degree at the University of Cambridge in 1990 and worked as a journalist and community English teacher before returning to academia. I was awarded my PhD from the University of Sheffield in 2011 and taught at the Universities of Sheffield, Sheffield Hallam and Hull before joining the School of English, American Studies and Creative Writing at the University of Manchester in 2016.

I am a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy and  alongside my research work, I teach a range of courses across periods and levels, with a specialism in nineteenth- and twentieth-century literature.
