Giovanni Pasquali's research focuses on the public and private governance of Global Value Chains, with an interest in aspects related to innovation and upgrading in small and medium enterprises in Eastern and Southern Africa.

Giovanni completed his doctor in 2018 at the University of Oxford, Department of International Development,  with a dissertation titled 'When Value Chains Go South: Governance and Upgrading of the Kenyan Leather Sector'. Since January 2019, Giovanni works as research associate for the ESRC-GCRF funded project 'Shifting South: Decent Work in Regional Value Chains and South-South Trade'.
