Corrosion Behaviour of Laser Marked Austenitic 304 Stainless Steel

Hydrophobic surfaces have big surfac earea because it is difficult for water toinfiltrate a surface; the corrosion resistance is suggested to be very big for small contactareas existing in the natural environmentor in the presenceof waterisolated fromtheaironto thesurface. However, the detailed phenomena that occurs during the corrosionprocess and the relationship between hydrophobic surface parametersand corrosionresistance have not been adequately discussed. This study used 304 stainless steelmanufactured by laser marking todiscuss the surface morphology before and aftercorrosion by laser confocal andscanning electro nmicroscopy,and the electrochemicalreactionsthat occur during the corrosion processwere analysed using the scanningvibrating electrode technique and polarisation test. The aim was to determine theinfluence of laser marking on the corrosion resistance of 304 stainless steel.
