Research interests

Tim has published on various aspects of ancient social, demographic, and legal history, including Demography and Roman Society (Johns Hopkins UP, 1992). His book Old Age in the Roman World, also published by Johns Hopkins, appeared in hardback in 2003, and in paperback in 2004. He has also published a sourcebook for Roman social history (with Arthur Pomeroy of Victoria University of Wellington) with Routledge, 2007. The Oxford Handbook of Childhood and Education in the Classical World, co-edited with Judith Evans Grubbs and Roslynne Bell, appeared in 2013.

Current research projects:

Tim is currently working on several contracted books and papers, on the ancient family, on slavery, on breastfeeding, and on sexual health.He is also in the process of setting up an international network (FRoLiC) relating to the life course of the Roman female.
