I am a Post-Doctoral Research Associate at Tyndall Manchester. I am working on the UKERC-funded Financing Community Energy project, with Carly McLachlan, Sarah Mander, and Maria Sharmina also of Tyndall Manchester; and Ed Manderson (University of Manchester), Matthew Hannon (University of Strathclyde) and Jeff Hardy (Imperial College). This project aims to provide the first systematic quantitative and qualitative analysis of the role of finance in the evolution of the UK community energy sector; and to develop recommendations for innovative policies, business models and finance mechanisms that will support future growth of the sector.
Previously, I most recently worked on a study of the social implications of alternative finance, at the University of Leeds. I have also worked on a range of development research projects at the Overseas Development Institute, the University of the Highlands and Islands, and Leeds Metropolitan University. My PhD is from the University of the Highlands and Islands, where I studied power relations in community land ownership. My research interests are in social power, community, resources and the environment.
