Tariq Aslam is a Consultant Ophthalmologist specialising in management of medical retinal disease, particularly diabetes and macular degeneration.
He is actively involved in research and the development of the Clinical trials unit. He is the Local Priority Group Special Senses Research Lead for Ophthalmology and Chair of the Research Steering Committee.
He is Honorary Professor of Visual Science and Interface Technologies at Heriot-Watt University
Tariq Aslam gained his first degree from Oxford University and has subsequently trained as an eye surgeon in Manchester and Edinburgh. He completed advanced subspecialty training in medical disease of the retina at Moorfields eye hospital in 2009 and currently specialises in these conditions, particularly diabetes and age related macular degeneration.
He has completed an additional Doctorate in research at Oxford University and published over 50 papers in peer reviewed journals. He is an Associate Editor for the international peer reviewed journals ‘Acta Ophthalmologica’ and ‘BMC Research Notes’ and Editor of 'Eye News'
In his Consultant position at Manchester Eye Hospital he is actively involved in leading research and the development of the Clinical trials unit. He is the NIHR Special Senses Research Lead for Ophthalmology Greater Manchester and Chair of the Manchester Eye Hospital Research Steering Committee.
He is Honorary Professor in Visual Science and Interface Technologies at Heriot Watt University.
