Sociology of organization; medical sociology; public policy and management; ethnography; Michel Foucault; knowledge practices.
My research interests are in organisational studies of public services, with a particular interest in healthcare. My broader interests are in the take up of knowledge practices within organisation, how particular kinds of knowledge become embedded in particular contexts, and with what consequences for individuals and organisations. I am also interested in the relationship between organisation and institutions, how institutional forms emerge and become formalised, and how they adapt and endure organisational change.
My preferred research methods are qualitative, with a particular strength in ethnographic methods. I'm currently a co-investigator on two ethnographic studies of healthcare, one looking at quality and safety programs for Acute Kidney Injury in secondary care, and one looking at the relatively new phenomena of GP federations in primary care.
