Research interests

My research interests involve identifying how cellular calcium buffers modulate the systolic calcium transient. For the heart to contract calcium increases inside the cardiac myocyte. However, most of the calcium that is added to the cell to produce this contraction is bound to buffers. Currently there is some uncertainty as to the role played by these calcium buffers in regulating the contraction of the cardiac myocytes. By measuring the calcium concentration inside these cells, I am currently examining which components of the cell act as calcium buffers and am investigating their role in shaping the changes of calcium inside the cardiac myocytes.
