Biography
Max Migliorato studied Physics between 1991 and 1998 at the University “La Sapienza” in Rome, Italy, specializing in Solid State Physics. He then obtained a scholarship from the UK Defence and Evaluation Research Agency to pursue research for a PhD in the Electronic and Electrical Engineering Department of the University of Sheffield, where he worked on Atomistic Simulations of Semiconductor Materials. After being awarded his PhD in July 2003 he briefly worked in the same group as a Research Associate till May 2004 when he was awarded a prestigious Royal Academy of Engineering – EPSRC Research Fellowship.
In February 2007 he was awarded an RCUK Fellowship, as a consequence of which he moved in March 07 to the School of Electrical and Electronic Enginnering of the University of Manchester, where he joined the Microelectronics & Nanostructures group as a Research Fellow.
Since March 2011 he is a Lecturer in the same School, with research in modelling of electronic materials. he was promoted to Senior Lecturer in 2016.
His current work is on Grahene based gas sensors, for which a patent has been filed (UK Patent Application No GB1809160.3.) and has led to forming a spin out company Riptron Ltd, which received substantial investment (nearing £1M) in August 2019 (https://www.manchester.ac.uk/discover/news/graphene-sensors-that-measure-air-quality-are-step-closer-to-mass-market/).
