My interest in Geography burgeoned while learning the Geography of Africa in the early years of secondary school. However, my particular proclivity for Physical Geography, or more specifically, for Soil Science, Hydrology and Geomorphology, is mainly conditioned by a long-standing fascination with the gullied tracts in the Eastern Indian "red earths". Naturally therefore, after qualifying the school higher secondary examination in 2014, I chose to study Geography at university, and was fortunate enough to do so at the very reputable Presidency University Kolkata. I graduated with First Class Honours in 2017 and opted to attend a one year Postgraduate Diploma course in Applied Geoinformatics at Jadavpur University in Kolkata. In 2018, I moved to Belgium to pursue the inter-university MSc in Physical Land Resources, specialising in Soil Science, at Ghent University and Free University of Brussels (Vrije Universiteit Brussel), thanks to a scholarship awarded by Ghent University. I earned the MSc with greatest distinction (summa cum laude) in 2020.
Albeit I maintain a broad interest in the earth surface sciences, I am especially keen on studying critical zone processes that criss-cross Environmental Soil Science, Geomorphology and Hydrology. In particular, the myriad of ways in which surface and subsurface water fluxes interact while moving downslope towards a channel and in turn influence soilscape characteristics and surface topography, enthrall me.
I am currently a doctoral scholar in Physical Geography at the School of Environment, Education and Development, investigating gully erosion in India as part of the Environmental Processes Research Group (EPRG).
