Jon joined Manchester as a Lecturer in Criminology in September 2021. Prior to this, he was a Lecturer at Staffordshire University. His primary research interests include crimes of the powerful (white-collar, corporate, state crime), organised crime, modern slavery and exploitation, food fraud, social harm, and green criminology. These interests have led Jon to work in various positions across the UK, rest of Europe, and Middle East.
In recent years, Jon has received funding to work on a number of projects, including on corporate social responsibility in the Finnish construction industry; anti-trafficking chains in UK construction; policing responses to modern slavery; a fraud vulnerability assessment of food supply networks on the island of Ireland.
Jon obtained his PhD on migrant labour exploitation in the agri-food industry from The University of Manchester in 2017. He was a Research Associate at Manchester for a while after this, and then became a Research Fellow at Tel Aviv University (TraffLab). Jon has held visiting teaching and research positions at other universities across the UK and rest of Europe.
