Biography
Ilias graduated with “Άριστα” (Summa cum laude) from the University of Athens Medical School in 2003. He is a Consultant in Endocrinology and Diabetes, after training in the UK, Canada and Greece. In 2010 he completed his PhD as an Onassis Foundation Scholar at the University of Manchester, under the supervision of Prof. Peter Trainer and Prof. David Ray, while participating at the Christie Hospital Endocrine clinic schedule as part of his training. For his research on the biological effects of glucocorticoids, he received awards and funding from the Royal College of Physicians (Samuel Leonard Simpson Fellowship in Endocrinology), the University of British Columbia (Graduate Student International Research Award), the Onassis Foundation and the Society for Endocrinology. He maintains his research network between Manchester, Vancouver and Athens, with publications mainly focused on the HPA axis, steroid binding proteins and novel hormone measurement methods. He has authored three chapters in the "Oxford Desk Reference: Endocrinology" textbook, published by "Ofxord University Press" in 2018. He has extensive teaching and international oral presentation experience in the UK, Europe and the USA and has been an invited reviewer of manuscripts in scientific journals in the field of Neuroendocrinology and abstracts of the annual ENDO conference of the Endocrine Society. Ilias is a member of the Board of Directors at Onassis Scholars’ Association and Vice-President of the Hellenic Medical Schools Graduates Association.
