Biography
I am a Reader (Associate Professor) in the School of Chemistry, Analytical Measurement and Physical Chemistry Section. My first degree and PhD were from the Department of Chemistry at UMIST. On completion of my PhD I took up a post-doc with Prof John Vickerman to develop a new imaging ToF-SIMS (secondary ion mass spectrometry) instrument for surface chemical analysis. Further development work and biological applications of ToF-SIMS were pursued through a Leverhulme Special Research Fellowship. I joined the School of Chemical Engineering and Analytical Science on the creation of the new University of Manchester in 2004, transferring to the School of Chemistry in 2011
My research group is based in the Manchester Institute of Biotechnology and the Photon Science Institute
