Research interests

My research is concerning language impairments in traumatic brain injury patients, in the absence of any focal lesions in the language centre of the brain. The theory behind this is that diffuse axonal injury occurs, disrupting white matter tracts connecting areas of the language centres. Firstly I aim to discover the prevalence of language problems in such patients, using neuropsychological batteries. Secondly diffusion tensor imaging will be performed to examine the integrity of specific white matter tracts and compared with the previous behavioural data. Finally I will attempt to reveal if these patients impairments can be improved using transcranial direct current stimulation (tDCS) based on the theory that tDCS promotes neuroplasticity.
