I am interested in supervising students in the later prehistory of northern Europe, focusing on:
  • Iron Age populations: life-course, disease, violence and funerary rites
  • Later prehistoric material culture, particularly Celtic art
  • Martial identity and material culture (particularly in later prehistory but also the early Roman period)
  • Exhibiting the dead: museological approaches to human remains
I will also consider supervising topics which address these themes, in other periods.

In addition, I will accept students intending to study:
  • The history of archaeology (particularly antiquarian studies)
  • Working class communities in late nineteenth/early twentieth rural and urban landscapes, particularly themes of 'living together' through work and leisure
  • Conflict archaeology
  • Representing the past: visualising archaeology
