Matt has three main areas of focus for his research:
Novel trial designs that improve efficiency in clinical trials; particularly improving uptake and dissemination of novel methods. Examples include the use of appropriate interim analyses; Bayesian clinical trial designs; n-of-1 designs; and multi-arm adaptive designs.
Choosing appropriate outcomes in chronic, painful conditions, in terms of sensitivity, validity, and reliability. Collection and analysis of patient-reported outcomes and subjective phenomena to take advantage of smart technology (smartphones and smartwatches).
Transparency in publishing: transparency and bias in meta-analyses, and improving transparency and reproducibility of analyses in clinical research, particularly through the use of literate programming.
