Maja Zehfuss received her doctorate from the University of Wales, Aberystwyth, and holds a Postgraduate Certificate in Post-Compulsory Education (Higher Education) from the University of Warwick. She taught at the University of Warwick before joining Manchester in 2006.
She co-edits the successful textbook Global Politics: A New Introduction, now in its third edition, and has published three research monographs with Cambridge University Press and Oxford University Press. Her most recent book, War and the Politics of Ethics (OUP 2018) received an honourable mention for the BISA Susan Strange Book Prize.
Maja Zehfuss is the co-founder of the British International Studies Association Poststructural Politics Working Group which she co-convened from 2001 to 2007. She served on the executive of the British International Studies Association from 2001 to 2005 and was a member of the Governing Council of the International Studies Association for 2008-09. From 2012 to 2017 she served as Associate Dean for Postgraduate Research in the Faculty of Humanities. She is the Chair of the editorial committee of Manchester University Press and co-editor of Review of International Studies. She also serves on the international advisory board of the Journal of International Relations and Development and on the editorial board of Critical Studies on Security. She is a Fellow of the Academy of Social Sciences.
