Dr. K. Purdam is an in expert research methods and in public consultation with a specific focus on civic society, citizen involvement and policy making. He has successfully completed a range of national research projects across challenging social policy areas working both in the public and private sector. He has held a number of senior roles including: Director of Postgraduate Teaching, Short Course Programme Director and Director of Academic Staff Training.
He has successfully completed and published consultancy and research on behalf of: the Electoral Commission, the Department for Communities and Local Government, the Home Office, the Department for Trade and Industry, the Department for Work and Pensions, the National Assembly for Wales, the European Union, the International Labour Organisation and numerous local authorities and charities (Big Issue, Crisis, Practical Action). He has also conducted research with high profile private sector organisations. His research has been featured on the BBC and ITV News and in the national and local press. He has also completed General Election political research and commentary for ITN and IRN. His work is widely published in leading journals including: Current Sociology, European Sociological Review, European Societies, Environment and Planning, Policy Studies, Local Government Studies, Journal of Civil Society, Radical Statistics, Political Geography, Sociology and The British Journal of Politics and International Relations.
Dr. K. Purdam's research has been presented at, and published by, a number of government Select Committee enquiries. His research was part of two 2014 REF Impact Case Studies and he has received a social responsibility commendation from the University of Manchester. An impact film has been made of his research. Dr. K. Purdam is also a cartoonist and his work is regularly published in a number of leading current affairs publications.
Dr. K. Purdam's research has been featured on the BBC News and in the national and local press. He has completed political research and commentary for ITN and IRN. His research has been presented at, and published by, a number of Select Committee enquiries. He is an ESRC funding programme assessor and a reviewer for a number of leading journals. Dr. K. Purdam has held a number of senior posts within the University inclduing: Director of Academic Staff Training, Director of the SRMS MSc and Director of the CCSR short course programme. Dr. K. Purdam teaches a number of one-day courses for practitioners and policy makers. He utllises task-based learning pedagogies in his teaching and has written about such approaches for learning.
