Jesús Esteban earned his BEng, MEng and PhD degrees in Chemical Engineering in 2015 at the Complutense University of Madrid. After stints at the University of Birmingham (2015-2017), the Technical University of Dortmund (2014 and and 2017) and the Max Planck Institute for Chemical Energy Conversion (2018-2020), he was appointed Lecturer in Chemical Engineering at The University of Manchester in July 2020. 

His research interests and projects revolve around Chemical Reaction Engineering, Green Chemistry and Process Intensification with a particular focus on the production of chemicals from alternative biobased substrates.

His efforts have been acknowledged with the Prize to the best PhD Thesis in Science and Technology of the Royal Academy of Doctors of Spain (2015), the Green Talents Award of the German Ministry of Education and Research (2016), the Excellence Award in Chemical Reaction Engineering of the European Federation of Chemical Engineering (2018), the CAS SciFinder Future Leaders Prize (2018), his mention in IUPAC’s Periodic Table of Younger Chemists representing the element Germanium (2019), the Hermann Neuhaus Prize of the Max Planck Society (2020), the Young Researchers Award of the special interest group in Chemical Engineering of the Spanish Royal Society of Chemistry (2020) and the Alumni Award of the Complutense University of Madrid (2021).
