My research is mainly in Platonic and Early Greek philosophy, although I have published on Hellenistic and Roman philosophy too. I am particularly interested in Platonic and Presocratic epistemology. I also have an ongoing interest in the interaction of form and content in ancient philosophical writing and in texts considered marginal or inferior. I am currently collaborating on a new annotated translation of the Platonic Letters with Owen Hodkinson (University of Leeds). I am also working on Plato's Phaedrus, Empedocles' epistemology and on a volume on genre in ancient philosophy.
I have supervised PhD theses on topics including Plato's Timaeus, Plato's understanding of 'philosophy', Empedocles, and Plato and rhetoric.
