Mr Ismail Taifa

Dr Taifa completed a PhD from the Department of Materials, at The University of Manchester, UK, in 2020. He also has Master of Engineering (MEng) in Mechanical (Industrial) Engineering (Distinction) from Gujarat Technological University (India) and Bachelor of Science in Industrial Engineering and Management (Hons) from the University of Dar es Salaam (Tanzania). His PhD research focused on the digitalisation of supply chains for manufacturing industries, and part of his research has been published in a book chapter (Taylor & Francis), conference proceeding (IEEE) and peer-reviewed articles in international journals (by Emerald and Inderscience publishers).

He was a Teaching Assistant at the University of Manchester, UK, and he is a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (FHEA). He is also an academician in Mechanical and Industrial Engineering Department, College of Engineering and Technology at the University of Dar es Salaam. His research interest includes quality engineering, manufacturing engineering, human factors engineering/ergonomics, logistics and supply chain management, engineering management, and industrial engineering (general). As an experienced educator both in Tanzania and the UK, he was recognised as the Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (FHEA) in 2018.

At the University of Manchester, he has been involved as a Teaching Assistant in the subject areas such as Operations Management, Sourcing and Distribution, Fashion Business Analysis, Strategic Management, Strategic Marketing/Retail Strategy and Business Projects.

Dr Taifa commenced an academic career at the University of Dar es Salaam as a Tutorial Assistant in Mechanical and Industrial Engineering Department. He was later promoted to an Assistant Lecturer position in the same department after having completed Master of Engineering.  At the University of Dar es Salaam, he was involved in the subjects including Industrial Systems Simulation, Supply Chain Management, Distribution and Logistics, Product Branding and Brand Management, Strength of Materials, Engineering Economics, Engineering Drawing/Graphics, AutoCAD, Statics, Human Resource Management for Engineers, Entrepreneurship for Engineers, Research Methodology, Mathematics for Textile Design, and many other subjects befitting his experience.
