Biography

I was born in Brampton, Canada and did my early Undergraduate and Masters-level education at York University and the University of Toronto. I was very fortunate to have received scholarships to study abroad, first at National Taiwan Normal University in Taipei, and later at Nanjing University. I completed my PhD in Chinese Buddhism at Columbia University in 2013, and was selected as a postdoctoral fellow at the Institute for Advanced Studies in the Humanities at the University of Edinburgh. I later completed a three-year Leverhulme Early Career Fellowship in the Asian Studies department at the University of Edinburgh before coming to the University of Manchester in September 2017 as Lecturer in Chinese Culture and History. In the past I have been a visiting scholar or workshop participant at Academia Sinica in Taipei and the Max Planck Institute for the History of Science in Berlin.
