My main area of research is modern and contemporary literature and cultural production from Taiwan, Hong Kong and the PRC. In recent years, this interest has expanded to include (East) Asia as a whole. I am especially keen to explore how literature and other cultural texts can act/perform as alternative archives (of countermemory) for marginalized historical groups, i.e.: those peoples who do not fit neatly into the category of official, state-sanctioned History. This concern for marginalized groups has also led me to begin exploring ecocritical themes and how cultural production can operate as an "ecological conscience" for societies under threat of environmental disaster. Currently I am working on a book project that explores literary articulations of "other-anothers" in Taiwanese ecoliterature.
