Overview

I am a Lecturer on the B.Sc. Educational Psychology and M.Ed. Education and Psychology programmes within Manchester Institute of Education (MIE). Prior to joining MIE I worked as an Associate Lecturer at the University of Exeter within Clinical Education Development and Research on their Educational Mental Health Practitioner (EMHP) and Child Wellbeing Practitioner (CWP) masters programmes, which draw on the initiatives set out in the DFHSC & DfE (2017) green paper, and its government response to deliver mental health support provision within schools.  I hope to draw on this applied clinical insight within my teaching and research within MIE.

I also held Associate Lecturer and Seminar Tutor contracts at Manchester Metropolitan University and Keele University, teaching on their undergraduate Psychology, Educational Psychology and Education undergraduate and masters programmes. Here is where I also completed my PhD in Psychology, which focussed on how to improve children's emotional well-being over primary-secondary school transition. To do this I designed, implemented and evaluated a universal emotional-centred support intervention called Talking about School (TaST), which was informed by preliminary case study and focus-group research conducted in the UK and USA, in mainstream and special schools. For more information and useful resources to support primary-secondary school transition, please see: clbagnall.wixsite.com/research-resources

In addition to school transition, my research interests include children’s emotional well-being and mental health, intervention mixed-methods research, support for children with additional social-emotional and mental health needs, and co-creation.

Aside from academia, I work as an Applied Behaviour Analyst Tutor, and sit on the BPS Developmental Section Committee, the BPS Developmental ECR committee, the BPS Educational Psychology Section Committee and TCELT-INTR committee.
