My research programme is disease based, investigating different aspects of pathogenesis, measurement and treatment of Raynaud’s phenomenon and systemic sclerosis. Salford Royal Hospital is a tertiary referral centre for systemic sclerosis. I have a particular interest in nailfold capillaroscopy and in other methods of measuring digital vascular structure and function. I am Principal Investigator in a number of clinical trials/studies.
I collaborate with members of the UK Systemic Sclerosis Study Group, the Scleroderma Clinical Trials Consortium (I am past-president of the SCTC), and the EULAR Scleroderma Trials and Research Group (EUSTAR). A major remit of these three organisations is to facilitate collaborative studies investigating systemic sclerosis-spectrum disorders.
