Research interests

I am currently a 3rd year PhD student in the Isotope, Geochemistry, and Cosmochemistry Research Group. My research focuses on the formation conditions of chondrules (the most abundant component in chondrites).  My project aims to constrain the formation conditions of chondrules by combining observations of silica (SiO2) polymorphs and textures in natural and experimentally reproduced chondrules. SiO2 has several stable polymorphs below ~1700°C. At low pressures, quartz, tridymite, cristobalite, which are stable up to 857°C, 1470°C, and 1713°C respectively; therefore, the presence of a particular polymorph within a chondrule can yield information on the chondrule’s thermal history.
