Severe and enduring anorexia nervosa

Research output: Chapter in Book/Report/Conference proceedingChapterpeer-review

Abstract

This chapter focuses on issues of concern to counselling psychologists who work with adults with 'severe and enduring anorexia nervosa' (SE-AN). It explores why some people don't recover from anorexia nervosa (AN), summarises criteria for using the SE-AN label, and briefly reviews evidence-based SE-AN treatments. A rationale for counselling psychologists to develop socially informed formulations for SE-An is discussed, along with alternatives to standard weight restoration treatment including reducing habituated behaviour and social isolation within a harm-minimisation framework.
