Mono Sensor Empirical Curve-Fitting Determination of Acoustic Attenuation Coefficient for Pipeline Monitoring

Abstract

Acoustic pulse reflectometry is a monitoring method that offers non-destructive detection by measuring the echo from leakages and blockages in pipe-lines. In this paper, we present the fundamental study of wave propagation model in a plane wave region for pipelines with different diameters and excitation fre-quency of input pulse. The theoretical attenuation coefficient is established and compared with attenuation coefficient obtained using single sensor acoustic pulse reflectometry experiment and then proposed a modified equation.
