I'm an Urdu guy: Exploring the literacy lives of young multilingual children at home and at school

Research output: Chapter in Book/Report/Conference proceedingConference contribution

Abstract

This presentation discusses the different types of literacy activities young multilingual children engage with at home, at school and in their local community. It explores the manner in which they begin to make sense of literacy in all its various forms. It draws on theories about the multiple literacy environments which multilingual children will draw on and reinterpret, in order to not only establish their personal identities, but also to make sense of their own literacy worlds. The children's homes and the community discussed in this presentation present rich and varied linguistic landscapes and the families participating are from different language and cultural backgrounds.
