Abstract

This chapter describes a postgraduate course titled 'Media and Information Literacy' which is taught in the School of Education, University of Manchester, UK. A recently published paper in the Journal of Information Literacy (Whitworth 2009b) describes how this course is designed as an attempt to teach within the "relational" frame of information literacy education (Bruce, Edwards and Lupton 2007). This chapter briefly discusses the philosophy behind the course and then evaluates its impact on student learning, something not undertaken in the JIL paper. This evaluation considers whether students have adopted the course's holistic view of IL.
